Fantasy Treehouse:
Our family have spent many wonderful vacations on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe
but the Rockpile was one of our more enjoyable stays. It lives up to it's listing
description but also gives you a glimpse into the simple life of old Tahoe.

It's the Real Thing -- QUINTESSENTIAL TAHOE AT ITS BEST:
This place is part of a compound that has been in the owner's family for generations.
Imagine coming to Tahoe in the '20s and having your choice of beautiful spots to build.
The Rockpile at Brockway combines all the opportunities for outdoor adventures, as
listed in the description, with the relaxed, unspoiled natural beauty of Tahoe of old
towering pines, firs, immense boulders, lake and mountain views on all sides.
I'm feeling a pang at preparing to leave for a too-short week, including a beautiful
fireworks display on Labor Day, seen across the water from the deck.
Special treat hike nearby: the old fire lookout, and easy trail though steep.
At the top you get a view of the entire lake.

Fabulous! Everything the property description says is true, even understated!:
Before writing this review I read many of the others...and they're all true!
This is a fabulous historic virtual treehouse with picture windows looking out over more than a
180-degree view of the lake in a wonderful 8-sided living room. Architecture is unique, same for
the site, and the location couldn't be better. As other reviewers have said, the owners are
wonderful too. They live in this same family compound but below the Rockpile house and far
enough away for everyone's privacy. The 49 steps are good exercise and not too strenuous.
Kitchen and bathrooms are tight, as in most Tahoe vacation homes, but perfectly serviceable.
The Rockpile's charm is in part due to its historic yet informal design, craftsmanship, and
sense of long family history; a welcome respite from conventionality while retaining real
comfort and familiarity. It's a place you'll wish was your own! Small wonder so many visitors
have written rave reviews...and like them, we're planning to come back again...and again.

We LOVE the Rockpile!
This was my third year coming to the Rockpile between Christmas and New Years. It is a magical place and every
year, which the difference in snow fall, it looks a little different. However, what stays the same are the
incredible views of the lake from all the windows. With its south facing view the Rocpile affords amazing
visibility of the lake and surrounding mountains. The building is so beautifully constructed and has such
a warm and cosy feel. I always sleep in the lovely little "Dog House", with my dog, which I love. My daughter
enjoys the cosy little Squirrels Nest. Having all theses separate spaces gives us each a little privacy. Very
close by is a lovely, clean broad sandy beach that must be one of the prettiest on the entire lake. It is dotted
with small and large boulders that are fun for climbing. Sometime I want to come back in the summer to enjoy
sunning and swimming from this beach. The Rockpile is a true gem. Hopefully we'll be returning for many years
to come.

This is the perfect Lake Tahoe Cabin!
Traveling with my adult children, this was the perfect layout where everyone had privacy and were able to enjoy
the main living areas as well. The kitchen is wonderfully stocked, the beds are really nice with down comforters,
the hot tub under the stars...but our most wonderful times were spent in front of the lovely rustic fireplace.
Gail and her family have thought of every detail to make this a perfect stay. Having sold my family's cabin
several years ago, The Rockpile will become our new Tahoe home. It is the most charming Tahoe home I have seen,
we are blessed to have found it.

Unique and beautiful setting in North Lake Tahoe
We enjoyed a wonderful week with our family at this comfortable and very charming property. The architecture is
unlike anything we've seen - built right into the magnificent boulders high above the lake. This property is
loaded with character and charm, with a real "old Tahoe" feel. The views are lovely in every direction, be it of
the lake, or hot-tubbing on the back deck amidst the huge boulders. The interior dining table has views of the
lake, and there is a large round dining table on the back deck for dining al fresco. The kitchen amenities are
excellent with good quality pots and pans, an abundance of dishes, glasses, and utensils - everything you might
need including a CuisineArt, a Weber grill, and a cookbook library (which was my reading for the week). The
three bedrooms are separated for good privacy. There is also a separate laundry room. Be advised that there
are stairs to climb so think about weight of items to carry up and carry down. We are "seniors" and we came back
in better shape than when we arrived. We highly recommend this property (it would also be terrific for people
wishing to share).

My Dream Week - a reality!
Forget the hot tub & sauna - just think of actually staying in a most unique wooden house, built with care and
attention to detail as to use of space & furnished with numerous unusual artefacts all blending in so
sympathetically with the all wood interior. Situated on a steep hillside surrounded by huge boulders, some the
size of a small room. Then add deep blue sky, warm sunshine and views through a few, tall pine trees which lead
down to sparklingly clear water dotted with an odd rocky outcrop or two and in the distance can be seen the far
lake shore surrounded by mountains - this is The Rock Pile at Brockway, Lake Tahoe.
Not only are there panoramic windows giving 180 views in the living room, but outside the house are 3 different
sitting areas, 2 with lake views. The third is a roomy decked patio with a hot tub, dining for 6 and a couple of
loungers surrounded by boulders, not only giving privacy but also completely sheltered from the wind which often
gets up around mid-day. The whole area is extremely child and dog friendly thanks to numerous discreetly placed
folding gates. There is no road noise and notwithstanding the houses nearby it is wonderfully quiet. The only
drawbacks for some might be the 48 steps to reach the property and/or the lack of a bath tub. The galley shaped
kitchen is excellently appointed and encourages one to eat at home for who can have a better view!!

The beautiful Rockpile
Just returned home from a wonderful week at the Rockpile in Brockway, Lake Tahoe. No pictures can do this gem
justice. The extraordinary views from all decks are amazing. The beautiful "old style" Tahoe home is something
we never thought we would find in this day and age. It is warm, decorated beautifully, and well equipped with
everything you could ever want. The separate units, the Squirrel's Nest and Dog House were perfect private
spaces for our 28 year old daughter and 35 year old son and daughter-in-law. The kitchen is extremely well
equipped and we enjoyed having beautiful meals at the dining room table with gorgeous views. The location is
epic! The beach is one of the best. Gail is a wonderful person to deal with! I only wish we could have stayed
another week. None of us, including our 8 month old Goldendoodle, wanted to leave. Thank you for a vacation we
will never forget. Can't wait to come back!

Classic Tahoe at it's best!
Our family has been vacationing in LakeTahoe for decades, and once owned a cabin in the Brockway area. The
"Rockpile" brought back the all the great memories of "Old Tahoe" charm and it was a perfect Lake Tahoe
vacation for the four of us, we have 2 children ages 19 and 23. The location is a very short walk to the
beautiful Buck's Beach as well as convenient to the North shore ski areas, hiking and mountain biking trails
and the amenities in Kings Beach and Incline Village. The small kitchen, is well equipped and there are several
great patio areas to relax or eat outside. The house is filled with old Tahoe memorabilia and has incredible
views of the lake. We would not hesitate to return to the "Rockpile"!

A Delightful Tahoe Oasis
Our family of 6 plus our two dogs spent 2 wonderful weeks at the Rockpile. Gail was welcoming and accommodating
from the time of our arrival through our departure. We absolutely loved the proximity to the lake and basked in
being "local" for two weeks. The attention to detail in the welcome letter and restaurant suggestions were
helpful and spot-on. Whatever the Rock Pile may lack in space (smallish bathrooms/galley kitchen) or modern
amenities (there is one TV in the master bedroom) it more than makes up for in location, charm and efficiency
particularly in the well-stocked kitchen. This is a great rental if you appreciate views, proximity to the lake
and old Tahoe charm. As mentioned in other reviews, there are many stairs which wasn't a problem for our family
but important to consider for those less active and the separation of the rooms was a bonus for us as our
teenagers could sleep in late and have their own space. There was plenty of space in the main house for 4 of us
with the pull out bed for our two younger children who didn't want to stay in the "Dog House" but our older
children loved the autonomy of their own suite. There is a wonderful video you can watch which shows the layout
of the property and will help you plan for your stay. We had a ball at the Tahoe Treetop adventures in
Granlibakken with climbing and zip lining and enjoyed the Sand Harbor Shakespeare festival, played a couple of
rounds of mini golf in Kings Beach and took a wonderful hike nearby which Gail recommended to us.

The video Amy mentions is our original video which was judged by many as too long---however it IS great for
giving you the layout of the house which many people find confusing before seeing it. We have a new video
(very soon to be posted!) which is zippier and which does a TERRIFIC job of showing the house and the surrounding
area but because of its fun style, doesn't convey the layout as well.

all we wanted and more!!
My family and I booked the rockpile for a 4 day thanksgiving vacation. Gail is very prompt on returning phone
calls and answered all my questions. This property is so unique and has lots of charm. Loved the decoration
and loved the fact that they had down comforters on the beds. The view is 10x more grand than we had expected.
The hot tub is newer and is in a neat little nest surrounded by rocks. The location is great lots of resturaunts
and skiing close by. My partner and I stayed in the dog house so the kids could sleep in the main house with
my mom. The dog house is very cute and cozy and we loved all the pictures. My dog poppy seed a 5 lb yorkie
actually had her puppys on the visit! She gave birth to two tiny pups. Few things that could be potentially
challenging: There are a lot of stairs which is fine if you are in good shape but also be careful in the
winter as they are slippery when icy. Also kitchen is pretty small so one to two people can comfortably be in
the kitchen at one time. Thanks so much for renting us your home!! We plan to vacation at the Rockpile in the
future.

Beautiful Views and a Great Space
We truly loved staying in this house for our family vacation. There were views from every window! And I loved
having so many decks, one for breakfast, one for lunch, and one for dinner! It was also great having the Dog
House, it was the perfect place for the in-laws! The walk to the beach was short and easy. Although it wasn't
as nice as having a walk out beach, it was worth the trade for this unique and awesome house. We'd stay here
again for sure and definitely recommend it to friends. The house was clean and was everything promised.

MANAGER RESPONSE:
Another advantage of the many decks is that each deck is better than the others for particular times of day:
you'll want to (snuggled in the provided bathrobes) have your first cup of coffee at the bistro table outside
the kitchen window to catch the sun shining on the eastern shore as it rises from behind the mountain. Then for
breakfast, move to the sheltered, warmer back deck, with a slightly different view of the east shore. By lunch,
you'll want to move to the front deck with its terrific views of the south, west and north shores. By about 3:00,
if it's gotten too warm on the front deck, or if the afternoon wind has come up, you'll find yourself back on
the back deck which, nestled in the rocks, is protected from the wind. Cocktails, watching the often spectacular
sunsets, will be on the front deck again. If it's a chilly evening, back to the back deck to warm up in the hot
tub and eat dinner (after barbecuing on the deck outside the kitchen). And just for the fun of a different view,
you might move down to the Dog House deck to have a cup of hot chocolate before bed! And not to worry -- if you
get some thundershowers, you can move inside, snuggle up by the fire and see all those views (as well as the
storm) from the huge glass windows of the living room.

Great romantic getaway with excellent lake view
This quaint cozy getaway has a great view of the lake and is perfect for a romantic adventure. It has a great
private hot tub on the deck. It does have alot stairs, so be prepared for a little workout. We were here in the
1st of June and only needed the heat about 1 night. The heating configuration was a bit complex for us. The
bathrooms were also a bit small but we are from the South and are used to spacious bathrooms and generally rent
large homes. So it could just be us. Overall it was a very pleasant stay and the location is excellent. You are
almost on the state line.

I'm a little confused what seemed complex to them about the heating. In the living room, there are baseboard
heaters, a very effective and charming oil stove, and a fireplace, all of which are obvious and easy to use,
and the bedroom has a very effective wall heater. There is also an additional portable heater in the closet.
He is correct about the other comments -- the bathrooms are charming but not of modern-day size---and there are
49 stairs to be able to access the incredible view.

Very Peaceful
My wife and I were looking for a quiet getaway in the mountains where we could enjoy the views of the lake and
sit by a warm fire on a cool winter morning/evenng--and we found it. The Rockpile was exactly what we were
looking for. It's a cozy cabin complete with a nice warm fireplace, and fantastic views of the lake.
We arrived at night, so we didn't see the views until we woke up the next morning--and it was amazing. We made
a fire and watched a snow storm blow it across the lake and deposit a foot of snow all around the house (it was
like staying in a snow-globe).
The house is very well maintained and is very clean. The architecture is very unique--it is literally built
perched on top of a rock pile (which gives it a great view of the lake). The amenities are very modern--brand
new appliances (fridge, dishwasher, oven), there's a new, high-end TV in the bedroom, and a new, well maintained
hot-tub on the back patio. There is also a sound system that is wired to play music through-out the cabin,
which though older, can be arranged to plug in a portable MP3 player.
The owners are really nice and very helpful. The whole experience of reserving the Rockpile was very easy and
positive. We are already thinking of coming back again. We would highly recommend staying at this property.

AWESOME GETAWAY
My best friend and I stayed here for two weeks in the off season before Thanksgiving. It is so quiet and peaceful
at night, no sound of dogs barking or loud neighbors, which is something we live with everyday back at home. Oh,
the silence is glorious! Magnificent views from the three panoramic windows of the living room. The rooms are
clean, rustic, cozy, and welcoming. The kitchen has everything, the washer is front load (score!), and there's a
hot tub to soak in after a day of hiking. Although it feels secluded, restaurants and grocery stores are less
than 5-10 minute drive away. We could have easily stayed here for another week. Gail and her husband, Ken,
are so nice and accommodating. The next time we're in Tahoe, we wouldn't hesitate to stay at Rockpile again.

Views Galore.
We stayed at the Rockpile this summer and there is a stunning vista from everywhere you look. I witnessed one of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen. I have been staying at VRBO properties for years and never I have I been to on that is so incredibly well appointed. Everything you could possibly need is there. There is a queen sized bed in the master and then a pull out in the living room in the main house, but if you have other guests they will be sleeping in a separate place (just down the steps). The living room has the best view in the house, and is very cozy as well. We loved it. There is also a beach 3 minutes walk away that we spent at least 3 days on. It is uncrowded because the water level is so high and the swimming is awesome - I would get there early. If you are not familiar with Brockway - it is very hilly so keep that in mind if you are on bikes. We drove our bikes a very short distance and rode them from there.

We had a great week at the Rockpile. The main house kitchen and living areas feel cozy, private and secluded.
The sauna and hot tub are a nice luxury that made our trip unforgettable. Both were clean and in excellent
working condition. The view from the 3 picture windows in the living room is of the waters edge to all around
the lake and there was so much to see; kayakers, canoes, standup paddlers, skiboaters, seaplanes, so much to see
from the Rockpile.
We were very lucky the week we stayed because there was a rain storm and my wife and I could watch the storm
clouds move around the lake. It was beautiful but just as nice was the perfect sunny weather and being able to
see the lake come alive with activity the next day.
Our hosts Gail and family are the nicest people you would ever meet. Every inquiry is addressed promptly and

Truly a Piece of Heaven
If you're excited about your trip to the Rockpile simply by viewing the listing photos and reading the
descriptions of this place, you will only be even more pleased once you arrive and see this home and surrounding
area in person. We had been planning our trip for months and we honestly could not have been more pleased with
our entire experience. The actual house was remarkable. Because the bedrooms are on different levels, it would
be ideal for extended or multiple families vacationing together. However, there is also adequate room on the
main level for those traveling with small children. The views from the house are simply breathtaking. It is
difficult to describe the views. You will have to see it for yourself once you arrive.
The surrounding towns were quite pleasurable as well. Kings Beach is within walking distance. Make time to eat
at the Log Cabin Cafe at least once for breakfast while there. We visited Incline Village quite a bit as well.
If you're into pampering yourself some, the Stillwater Spa at the Hyatt was remarkable. We highly recommend it.
We made it up to Squaw Valley one day too. There is the option to take a cable car up to High Camp, hike around,
swim, eat, and then either ride it down or hike back down. We had dinner at Moody's in Truckee one night as well.
It was also a great surrounding town. Make time to visit there as well.
Now about those owners of the Rockplie...this property is family owned. We cannot say enough wonderful things
about this family. They were overly accommodating from the minute our reservation was made. Many pre-vacation
questions were answered months before our actual trip. We felt very well taken care of throughout our stay and
then even upon our departure. Our trip was practically perfect in everyway. The home, the view, the owners,
the surrounding areas, and the activities were all perfect. We do hope to make it back to the Rockpile someday.
I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is considering a trip to Lake Tahoe. High Family, thank you
again for a wonderful experience.

My husband and I stayed in the largest dwelling on the property during the week of 16 May 2011. A storm front

If you are saying this right now, then waste no more time. Our experience (with a one year old mind you)

January at the Rockpile
If you want the best of old Tahoe the Rockpile is perfect but it is even more than that. Simply put it is a
fabulous and one of a kind property. I've been visiting Tahoe for forty years and even lived on the Lake for a
bit a couple of decades ago and I've never lived, stayed, or visited at a more charming location. The house is
old school, hand built, wood, trees, and great boulders everywhere. The views and setting are unsurpassed.
Watch yourself on the steps and stairs but we had small kids and grandma along for the trip and the up and down
worked out without any problems. The main living area is open, great views, massive stone fireplace, and behind
is a really great galley kitchen that easily accommodated all of our menu planning. The place has soul and we
will certainly return for another trip. Very close to Mt Rose and Incline, right on the state line if you're
looking for a nearby casino - you could walk - and 30-40 minutes from Reno International you're staying in a
quite and lovely place but are minutes from anything you'd want to do in the diverse recreation and distractions
of Tahoe. My wife and I have been many places in the States and abroad and the Rockpile is absolutely one of a

Amazing Thanksgiving at the Lake!
We stayed at the Rockpile over Thanksgiving and had the most amazing stay! Despite a massive snowstorm, we
found the Rockpile to be gorgeous and comfortable. With a view of the Lake from almost every window, we could
not have found a more picturesque location. And though the house was convenient to everything (3 min walk to
the beach, 10 min walk to the casino/bus stop), it still felt like w were secluded in the woods. It truly was
a retreat!
Most of all, though, the owners of this house made our stay fantastic. We were unable to drive our rental up
the mountain due to the snow, so the family picked us up at the Casino to drive us down to the house. And on
our way out, they were kind enough to wake up at 6am to drive us back up to our airport shuttle! Finally, they
found my lost wedding ring and mailed it back to me with no hastle - they were AMAZING! Thanks to the whole
family for giving up a piece of their Thanksgiving to make our stay wonderful!
I would recommend this house to anyone considering a Tahoe vacation! ENJOY!

The Rockpile has great views, and it's right on the lake!
My wife and I had a great time at the Rockpile. It was just the two of us, although there is plenty of room for
more vacationers. The views from the living/dining area and the back porch are awesome, even better than the
pictures online! The property is only a stone's throw from the lake. Access to a public lake/beach area is
just a 3 minute walk. There are giant boulders all over the property and the beach. We loved them because they
make it so unique. The hot tub is perfectly situated on the secluded back patio for privacy. The owners were
very responsive and helpful too. We give the Rockpile five stars!
Also, the property is very close to the north shore casinos (smaller than the south shore ones, but more
laid-back too) and great restaurants in Kings Beach and Incline Village. In terms of restaurants, we loved
Log Cabin for breakfast. For a casual soup/sandwich lunch, we suggest Jason's on the Waterfront (the french
onion soup is the best we've ever had). For a casual dinner, we loved Lanza's, Las Panchitas. There a a
number of highly-rated waterfront fine dining establishments in the area as well, but we did not get a chance
to try them. Sightseeing options are myriad. We spent half our time just driving around the lake taking
pictures at all the scenic overlooks. Emerald Bay, the public beach at the Rockpile, and Mount Rose were a few
of our favorites.
The only two things to be aware of are as follows. Access in or out requires taking a few flights of stairs
(it really is like a luxury tree house). Also the cabin is very clean and well-maintained, but it is an older
home. This means it has tons of personality, which we loved but may not suit everyone's taste.

Rockpile Exceeded our Expectations!
When my husband and I started planning our fall vacation we were worn out, from hectic work schedules. As such
we set out to find a place that would be wonderfully comfortable and cozy, yet well appointed. We also wanted
a spot on the water or at least with a view of the lake (Tahoe) and one that was dog friendly. When I came
across Rockpile, through VRBO, I knew I had found the right place. Fortunately for us it was available when we
wanted it. We were really excited about our upcoming trip, especially after speaking with our hostess, Gail
(who sent us excellent directions and information about both Rockpile and the surrounding area).
While the photos of Rockpile were fabulous, I don't think there is any way they could have depicted the true
beauty of the home itself or of the beautiful surroundings. We were thrilled! From the moment we arrived we fell
in love with Rockpile. The views from the decks and large windows were breathtaking.
There are so many wonderful things to share about the cabin. It was spotless and well furnished. The kitchen was
extremely well equiped. The furnishings comfortable. The fireplace magnificent, the hot tub perfect (very
private). The sand beach really was only a three minute walk from our front door. Within hours of our arrival
we were relaxed and had settled in nicely.
While Rockpile was wonderfully quiet and peaceful it was within minutes of lots of cafes, restaurants and shops.
We had a wonderful time exploring the little towns and several of the ski resorts, all within half an hour of
our cabin. After our daily excursions we always looked forward to returning to Rockpile to sit by a roaring fire
or sit on our private deck watching the sun set or walk on the beach (or all three).
After seven glorious days we had to head home. We really hated to leave but knowing we would be back made it a
little easier. Weeks later we are still raving about our stay at Rockpile and enjoying our memories and our many
photos.
I would highly recommend Rockpile; it was truly a wonderful cabin in one of the most beautiful settings.

KILLER place - undersold
So, I was looking for a little work retreat and a place to hang out with friends for a few days over that
weekend...this place rocked it (pardon the pun). One thing, I really think they undersold it. The lake is
right there - 30 yards from your car - while you have to walk a bit further to get to the beach (200 yards) it's
insanely close and just an amazing location. I was really pleased to find a place with a hot tub, on the lake,
a sauna (which gets hot, fast) and a private backyard. You can relax here in complete seclusion and not worry
about noise, nosy neighbors, or anything else. I've been going to Tahoe for years, and if I ever need a place
to chill again for just me, or up to 6-8 people, this is the place. You cannot beat the location, the access,
and the views - wow! Also, if you like rock climbing, while I'm sure the owner's insurance policy frowns upon
it, bring your shoes - some really killer boulder problems literally overhanging the hot tub and all throughout
your private back (and front) yard. Just an insane place.
Also, the owners could not have possibility been nicer people - inviting me in for a glass of wine upon my late
arrival.
This place gets my full rec!

Without Doubt, the coolest cabin in Tahoe
Rockpile really is a luxury Treehouse right next to the beach. We stayed here for Labor Day weekend for a
reunion of 8 college roommates from around the country. The weather was perfect for swimming, hiking, floating
down the river, and hanging out in the hot tub. The house is built right into the hill side by the lake, with
boulders becoming a feature of the house and a forming natural fence around the hot tub. It's really cool!
We highly recommend staying here, and the owner is also really friendly and helpful.

Lovely Time At The Rockpile
My husband, son and I had a wonderful week at the Rockpile. I didnt even know where Kings Beach was when I
made the reservation, but Im so glad we gave it a try. The house itself was lovely: beautiful views of the
lake, a well-appointed kitchen, wonderful furnishings (not what you would typically find in rental house --
more like what one would have in a nice home -- lots of great artwork), and a big t.v. in the master with a DVD
player to watch videos. We caught trout in nearby Boca Reservoir, and what a perfect place to cook the fish:
the back deck of the Rockpile, nestled among the boulders (bet your back deck at home doesnt look like this).
A little salad, a bottle of Chardonnay, dinner at the table out back...and then the hot tub, right there,
calling us in. It doesnt get any better! There were plenty of places in town to dine on the evenings when
we didnt want to cook, and the restaurants were quite good (Gail, your hostess, has them written up for you,
so no need to search). We biked from Tahoe City to River Ranch, hiked the Rubicon trail at Emerald Bay, and
trekked through the snow at Emigrant Peak at the top of Squaw (yes, in June -- what fun to hike through the
snow in running shoes and shorts). On days when we didnt have a trip planned, we visited the beach around
the corner, and it too was terrific -- more boulders, and a spectacular view of the lake. It actually rained a
few day, so thank goodness that we were at the Rockpile -- we played games and read our books, and it was nice
to have settled into such a comfortable spot. We would love to come again. One more thing: it is nice and
QUIET there. No need to worry about car noise that you might experience in some Tahoe homes -- this is well off
the main road, in a very peaceful spot.

Living in the house right below The Rockpile, I heartily agree with her about the quiet -- it's really
profound. As I write this in mid August at 8:30 a.m., there is not a single sound. (Not necessarily always the
case at this hour in the summer --- it's cloudy this morning, discouraging boaters. But it IS almost always the
case as far as traffic noise and the other noises of civilization!) Oh -- correction---2 little squirrels are
chattering away at each other on the railing of the deck outside my window! I guess that's civilization of a
sort! :-)

The Rockpile is Old Tahoe at its best!
We loved our stay at the Rockpile in June. The home is truly unique and one-of-a-kind. If you want to experience
old Tahoe at its best, then spend some time here. The views from our perch amongst the rocks were spectacular.
The first time ever we could actually hear the waves on the lake when the wind came up in the afternoon. We were
that close! We loved the privacy of the back deck -- our own outside dining area, nestled among huge rocks, with
a sun deck and hot tub. Perfect after a day of hiking with the dog.
We also appreciated that we could bring our dog with us. The Rockpile is very dog friendly and he loved chasing
the chipmunks around the yard!
The place excludes history and charm and is chock full of interesting furniture and art pieces. We cooked every
night and the kitchen was more than adequately stocked.
The owners were very hospitable and accommodating. They even lent us some local hiking maps and made amply
recommendations for eating locally and things to do.
But, most of all, we loved being lakefront, with such an incredible view, watching the sunset over the lake was
magic!
Fabulous place. We would highly recommend and look forward to another visit soon.
Thanks!

Rockpile
We stayed at the Rockpile for the winter/spring of 2010 (mid-Dec thru April) and had a great visit. We loved it
so much we extended our stay twice! The house has a ton of character, a wonderful view, and is the perfect place
for a couple to relax and get away from it all. The detached guest rooms allowed us to entertain our guests
while still maintaining privacy for ourselves. We used the fireplace and the hot-tub daily and the kitchen
could not be better setup for a pair of amateur chefs. We typically skied during the day at Alpine or Squaw
(a scenic 30 min drive away) and relaxed at home in the evenings. Weve recommended the Rockpile to our friends
who are seeking a perfect Tahoe getaway and were sure that other guests will be equally impressed.

For me, the on-line pictorial of "The Rockpile"
induced a love-at-first-sight moment, and the
write-up described an ideal, relaxing family get-
away. What is advertised on VRBO is a historical
home, located in the private and exclusive
Brockway area, with a view of Lake Tahoe, tucked in
and around an enormous pile of granite boulders,
replete with hot tub and sauna. And guests are
allowed to bring their beloved canine companions!
However, there is so much more to The Rockpile
than mere words can describe. The sights (that
majestic lake with background of snow-capped
mountains!), the smells (the gorgeous, spicy scent
of the surrounding pine trees!) and those sounds
(what sounds? the absence of city noise is
heavenly!) must be savored slowly, say over a week
or two. Or three. My family's experience there this
August met all of our expectations in every way,
shape and form. Not only did we enjoy some of
the most restful sleep we've had in ages, but our
waking moments were spent just as blissfully,
whether we were frittering away the time at the
local beach, swimming in the Lake, bbq-ing on the
deck, star gazing, hiking, or biking.......
For any of you familiar with Mankas Inverness
Lodge, The Rockpile in Brockway evokes a similar
feel. Here is a sublime vacation rental that displays
rustic elegance in a paradisiacal setting. This
property is equally fitting for couples seeking a
romantic departure from the fray or for families
wanting to bond and return to a healthy, simple
lifestyle.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. You can't believe the spectacular, breathtaking views of the Lake that you are
treated to from this unique home built upon impressive granite boulders. The front deck and back patio are ideal
for having a memorable outdoor meal, or for relaxing at anytime of the day. You will be treated to gorgoeus
sunsets viewed from the indoor living and dining area. The accomodations are clean, comfortable and cozy.
There are wonderful hiking trails around the area and you can learn more about them in the books that are
provided in the home. You can also ask your gracious host, Gail High, about the various trails. In fact she is
very friendly, helpful and a wealth of information.
We highly recommend this rental and look forward to a return visit.
