• ABOUT LAKE TAHOE:
  
  • Lake Tahoe is North America's largest Alpine lake.
    • It is 22 miles long & 12 miles wide
    • It is the 10th deepest lake in the world at a depth of 1645 feet
  • Due to it's volume, Lake Tahoe never freezes over, and even in the summer, doesn't get as warm as some of us would like!
    • (Although it wouldn't have it's renouned blue hue if it were warmer because more algae would grow in it & turn it greener!)
  • The average water temperature of the lake in July, August & the beginning of September is about 68 degrees
  • If it's been hot and still for several days, the lake temperature can get up to 72 degrees
  • Many people use a wetsuit for water-skiing in Lake Tahoe.

• PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION; FREE SKI SHUTTLES
  • Please check the internet to confirm all the information given below.
  • Free ski resort shuttle busses:
    (All the following shuttles pick up at Cal-Neva Lodge, which is a 5 minute walk from the house.)
    • Squaw Valley
      • Call Squaw Valley to request pick-up.
    • Alpine Meadows
    • Northstar
    • Diamond Peak
  • Year round TART busses (Tahoe Area Regional Transportation) pick up on Highway 28, just beyond Cal-Neva. TART goes from Incline Village to Sugar Pine Point in Meeks Bay, and to Truckee via Highway 89.
  • The Truckee Trolley, which runs in the summer only, also picks up on Hwy 28, just beyond Cal-Neva. The Trolley goes from Incline Village to Emerald Bay where you can transfer to the Nifty 50 Trolley, which operates from early June to late Sept., & which will take you to South Tahoe. (In the winter, Hwy 89 around Emerald Bay is closed due to snow.)
  • Taxis: Generally there are taxis available in front of the casinos, a 5 minute walk from the house.



• WEATHER & LAKE TAHOE REGION TEMPERATURE:
  (All the following information is based on my observations over the years and is given in Fahrenheit Degrees; you might want to check with a more official source as well!)
  • December through March you can expect temperatures from 10 to 55 degrees.
  • April, May, & June temperatures are generally between 40 & 70 degrees although it is not unusual to have one rogue snowstorm in May.
  • July & August have daytime temperatures of 70 to 90 degrees, with the evenings cooling off to 60-75 degrees.
  • September & October days are gorgeous with no crowds and temperatures from 60-75 degrees in the day and 40-65 in the evenings; (late June weather can be similar). However, occasionally snowstorms occur in October as well.
  • November can either be colder like December or warmer like October. When it is windy, the wind coming across the lake can make it feel a lot colder than the temperature reading, but it is very dry here, so that helps!
